Preparing for a successful adventure

An integral part of the adventure is the preparation. Professional development opportunities will be provided to all adventurers. Participants will read quality literature, view researched-based documentaries, discuss viewpoints of others by thoughtfully imagining and empathizing with the human experience, engage in thought-provoking discussions, observe selected artwork, and perform reflective journaling. Special guest speakers will provide valuable insights to enrich your overall experience.

Topics will focus on West Africa with emphasis on the country of Ghana. A rich diversity of subjects will be explored such as; education, cultural awareness, nature, health, storytelling, language, historical events, and the arts. From these topics, participants will acquire foundational knowledge about Ghana and its people and the numerous connections between Ghana and the United States.

These subjects and activities will allow attendees to expand their thinking about different ways cultures and countries operate, build community, and gain factual information. In addition, it is a way for educators to gain important knowledge prior to the physical destination that will enrich the overall experience.
