This is an enjoyable workshop that will provide participants with insight about a great artist and her signature style, abstract paintings that were inspired by nature. The artist was the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art. Within the workshop, participants will gain insight about her artistic approach, numerous ways to engage children using art and combining age-appropriate reading materials that promote artistic expressions. Participants will learn how to combine social studies, science, language, literacy and visual art to promote Black History about a remarkable African American woman. This is a highly interactive workshop and participants will be engaged in questioning strategies, working in small and whole groups, and developing age-appropriate activities for young learners. Attendees need to come prepared with construction paper, assorted color markers or paint, crayons, paint brush, pair of scissors, and glue stick. Of course, bring your great imagination!
